Talicud Island, February 27, 2022-- Talicud Polyclinic is now an inch closer to providing quality and accessible primary care services to the people of Talicud Island after the blessing ceremony of the facility, administered by Fr. Rodrigo Salac, SVD.
IGACOS City Health Officer, Dr. Dennis Carlo Flores, emphasized that the polyclinic was planned in 2016 and that access to health services is burdensome, especially since people need to travel to mainland hospitals and clinics. He stated that the establishment of the clinic is also very timely, as the City Health Office of Samal will have additional health personnel.
The same sentiments were stated by City Vice Mayor Lemuel Reyes, who gladly shared that this project is one of many that they have been looking forward to for Talicud Island. He assures the people that the 9th City Council will steadfastly help equip the facility to be fully operational.
Part of the objectives of this facility are to decrease by 50% the morbidity emergency cases and 30% the mortality cases in Talicud Island, lessen the financial expenditure of the people during emergency cases, and have safe, sustainable, efficient, and accessible health services.
Furthermore, City Mayor Al David T. Uy expressed his gratitude that the city officials of the past and current years have envisioned this facility with unity, which led to its successful realization. “Sa tinuod lang, ako nalipay na nagkahiusa kaming tanan kay para makahatag ta ug mga facilities sa atong isla. Kulang pa ni sya pero among paningkamutan na mapunduhan," Mayor Uy stated.
The 15-million facility with a land area of 5, 000 sqm has an X-ray room, operation room, dialysis room, and laboratory all in one and will cater to over 9800 residents from the 4 barangays of Talicud. Once the equipment is ready and installed, the operation of the clinic will commence in no time.
Present were the city councilors, department managers, barangay officials, barangay health workers, barangay nutrition scholars, and residents of Talicud Island. (CIO-IGACOS/NBC/RConcepcion)
