Island Garden City of Samal, September 07, 2022- In support to the Livelihood of the fisher folks of IGACOS, Fishing gear paraphernalia was distributed today to the forty-one (41) fisher folks from the 3 districts of IGACOS at the Peñaplata Freedom Park.
The beneficiaries and the fishing gear provided were determined through the Fisheries Registration System, wherein the licensed fisher folks were encoded. The distributed fishing gear paraphernalia included 4 Hook and lines, 14 Multiple handles, 4 Tuna Handlines, 3 Fish pots (Plastic Screen), 15 Squid jiggers and 1 Fiberglass Reinforcement Plastic and Motorized boat with complete accessories.
Through the initiative of City Mayor Al David T. Uy, the facilitation of the Fishery Division headed by Mr. Junmark Milliana, under the City Agriculture's Office headed by Mr. Jimuel Rebigan, with the cooperation of the SP member-committee on Agriculture, Hon. Ricardo Tacsanan, and with the provision and funding of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Region XI, the distribution of the fishing gear paraphernalia was made possible.
Mr. Millana reminded the fisherfolks to be good stewards of the fishing gear distributed to them. "Kaning budget ani gikan pud ni sa mga buwis sa mga tao… atong ampingan atong panggaon para magamit nato dugang panginabuhian sa atong pang adlaw-adlaw nga panghinanglanon." He said.
BFAR Fisheries Livelihood Development Technician, Mr. Arnold Asoy, representative of Regional Director Mr. Raul Millana of BFAR XI, expressed gratitude and commended the arduous effort of the LGU of IGACOS in assisting and supporting the fisherfolks.
