Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Station Island Garden City of Samal (IGACOS) conducted their ribbon cutting ceremony for the newly activated Coast Guard Substation Tagbaobo today, August 12, 2022, at Brgy. Tagbaobo, Kaputian District.
The newly built Coast Guard Sub-station in Tagbaobo is the 5th Coast Guard Substation (CGSS) established in IGACOS. This substation is fully equipped with life-saving apparatuses which were donated by the LGU-IGACOS under the leadership of Mayor Al David T. Uy. One (1) newly acquired rubber boat from the provincial government of Davao del Norte will be deployed in the said substation to monitor illegal and unusual maritime activities in its area of responsibility.
This substation is strategically built to overlook maritime concerns over Brgy. San Remegio, Canaan, Pangubatan, Tagabaobo, Tagbay, and Aumbay. The other substations are located in Babak, Kaputian, Talikud, and Tagpopongan.
Station Commander CG ENS Vasit Venturillo expressed his gratitude to the leadership of Kaputian Substation Commander, PO2 Cuberos, and PCG Auxiliary Unit 8O 2nd Division for their diligent planning and work in renovating the old tourism building given by LGU-IGACOS to the PCG.
The City Mayor, duly represented by Executive Economic Affairs, Mr. Florencio "Niño" Valera , acknowledged the effort of the PCG Station Commanders and Auxiliary Units. He also emphasized the purpose of the CGSS in controlling peace and order as our Island is known for its tourism industry and fish products. "Ang hangyo ni Mayor kay magtinabangay tang tanan. We have the Task Force Samal, Tourist Police, K9 unit, EOD Unit ug kung naaay kaduda-duda na panghitabo, ireport lang ni sa atong mga otoridad." he said.
CG District Commander-Commodore, Agapito Bibat supported Mr. Valera's speech about peace and order as he gave importance to the presence of the PCG. "Security is a vital factor for economic development, especially here in IGACOS, because we have very rich potential in our tourism industry." He also mentioned that the Philippine Coast Guard has already surveyed the SAMAL ISLAND-DAVAO CONNECTOR BRIDGE PROJECT last July 15 on where the foundations of the bridge will be built.
Moreover, a Barangay Resolution was presented and headed by Hon. Joebael Mohammad of Barangay Cogon, Talikud Island, where he asserted the building of the next substation in their area.
