The local government of Island Garden City of Samal, along with the City Investment and Tourism Office and Samal Island City College, in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry, finally launched the Samal Island Mini Food Processing Center.
During the launching, City Investment and Tourism Officer, Ms. Jennifer D. Cariaga, enunciated her gratitude to the forged partnership with the DTI, which helps in providing great support and opportunities to the local entrepreneurs on the island through the SSF project. She also emphasized the importance of MSMEs and their interrelationship with economic development. ".. Mahalaga po sila sa ating bansa. Sila talaga ang bumubuhay sa ating ekonomiya, kaya dapat lang at marapatin natin silang suportahan nang todo upang ito’y maging sustainable o panghabang-buhay ".
Furthermore, City Administrator Nieljun C. Esdrelon, speaking on behalf of City Mayor Al David T. Uy, stated explicitly that the administration will prioritize MSMEs on the island, and that the facility will benefit not only MSMEs but also young entrepreneurs studying at the SICC. He considered this facility as a booster of the island's economic sector as an agri-tourism city.
"The facility for mini food processing will help a lot sa atong mga gagmay na negosyante and it would give a good impact on the economic. With this, palambuon nato ang maong pasilidad that can have a boost sa atong lokal na panggamhanan kay sa food trend sa region, dako ang contribution sa mga food processor," said Mr. Esdrelon.
He further advocates patronizing and advertising our own products as a way of helping the local entrepreneurs.

The facility is equipped with various food processing machinery that will cater to most of the local products of the island, such as mango, coffee, cacao, and even meat products. With this, DTI Davao Del Norte Provincial Director, Mr. Romeo L. Castañaga, expressed the willingness to help the island in the improvement of quality and productivity, especially since the facility will not only be focusing on the production of a single product but a variety of product lines.
