With a 14-hectare hearth of more than 2000 endangered individuals, which can be classified as Tridacna crocea (boring clam), Tridacna derasa (smooth giant clam), Tridacna maxima, Tridacna gigas, Tridacna squamosa (fluted giant clam), and Tridacna noae, Taklobo Tours of DNSC Marine Reserve Park in Brgy. Adecor, Kaputian District, officially reopened yesterday, April 22, 2022.
Dr. Joy M. Sorrosa, president of Davao Del Norte State College (DNSC), heartily welcomed everyone with gratitude to the reopening of the giant clam sanctuary. "This is a very momentous event for all of us because, for more than two years close ang T-Tour, this time we are opening it again for the many individuals, visitors of IGACOS, to enjoy. But not only that, we can also be oriented about marine conservation, particularly with giant clams, "she said. She also added that the sanctuary brings a significant contribution to them since it serves as their site for research and other extension activities.
Ms. LLudeza Quesada, duly representing City Investment and Tourism Officer-in-Charge Rosabel Jusguan, was also delighted that the day marked not only the reoperation of the Taklobo tours but also a sign to kick-start livelihood in the community of Brgy. Adecor.
The Department of Tourism Regional Director, Tanya Rabat-Tan, duly represented by Ms. Clarence Yog, enunciated that the sustentation of the MRP should always be considered. "… now that you are really recovering, we will try our best to support the organization in providing assistant in the marketing and promo of this site kasi dito lang natin narealize no na ang research, conservation, and tourism can become in one… We can do tourism without harming the environment."
Present in the event were members of the Philippine Coast Guard-IGACOS headed by CG ENSIGN Vasit A Venturillo, who also promised assistance to the Taklobo Tours Technical Working Group.
Taklobo Tours is administered by the Conservation Tourism and Livelihood Opportunities for Coastal Communities in Samal Island, a joint project of Adecor United Fisherfolk Organization (ADUFOR), LGU-Island Garden City of Samal, BLGU-Adecor, and Davao Del Norte State College (DNSC) with the mission: Tour to conserve, Tour to change lives, and Tour to a better world.
