Eleven (11) Magna Cum Laudes and eleven (11) Cum Laudes, grantees of the Comprehensive Scholarship Program of the local government of the Island Garden City of Samal, received their certificates of recognition and monetary incentives amounting to P10,000 and P7,000, respectively, today, November 6, 2023, at the New City Hall.
In pursuance of City Ordinance No. 2020-327, the City Scholarship Committee, chaired by City Mayor Al David T. Uy, implemented the Comprehensive Scholarship Program through the Public Employment Services Office, spearheaded by Ms. Emmalyn H. Moriones, to support and ensure that educational assistance is given to qualified students on the island. Further, as stipulated under Section 18 of the ordinance, awards and incentives are given to scholarship grantees who demonstrate exemplary academic performance.
Vice Chairperson of the City Scholarship Committee, Hon. Marife Bantillo lauded the deserving scholars for their academic achievements, as the way to graduate with Latin honors is not easy. She also stated that the local government thrives on providing incentives to the students who excel to encourage and inspire them to perform well in their future endeavors. "Kini usa ni siya ka way nga makaencourage, makainspire sa atong mga future generations nga to excel in their class, and mamahimo silang sumbanan sa uban pang mga estudyante," she added.
One of the grantees, Jeanica P. Escobal, who graduated Magna Cum Laude under the Bachelor of Physical Education of the University of Southeastern Philippines, expressed her appreciation and gratitude to the local government unit for the opportunity and provision of financial assistance that supports the fulfillment of their dreams. "All of you play a specific role in our success, and we would like you to know that your efforts and the program itself are much appreciated", she gratefully said.
Through giving of incentives, the local government of Samal intends to inspire current and future scholars to strive for academic excellence, foster a greater sense of pride, and perform towards distinction.
