With this year’s theme, "Together4Teachers,” and to give honor to the hard work, dedication, and relentless efforts of the educators on the island, the City Government of Island Garden City of Samal, under the leadership of City Mayor Al David T. Uy, along with the 9th City Council led by City Vice Mayor Lemuel Reyes, blissfully expressed commendation through the World Teachers’ Day culmination activity on October 18, 2023, at the Samal Island City College (SICC) gymnasium.
Over one thousand seven hundred teaching and non-teaching personnel from the public and private schools in all levels on the island received 10 kilos of rice each, were given the chance to win household appliances and school equipment through the raffle draws, and were entertained by Tiktok celebrity Jaime “Telma” Onod. Private institutions also showed their appreciation to the teachers as they doled out items and cash prizes.
The day was made more thrilling when Mayor Uy announced a sponsored trip for two at Hong Kong Disneyland with additional pocket money for each raffle draw winner from the Babak, Samal, and Kaputian District public schools and one winner from the private schools. Aside from the prizes, Mayor Uy gave his salutation to the teachers for their vital role in the community in shaping the students into visionary future leaders of the city. “Importante karun ang role ninyo mga educators diri sa atoang isla kay kabalo ta Samal is on the crossroads tungod sa Davao-Samal Bridge, so mausab gyud ang dagway sa Samal, and we need future leaders who would really stir Samal pag-abot sa panahon. Moreover, Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio and Commission on Higher Education XI Director Maricar R. Casquejo gave their virtual messages of acknowledgement to the exceptional individuals for their invaluable contributions to society as they impart lifelong learning and instill values in the students. Dr. Casquejo even complimented the City Government for putting in an extra effort to celebrate Teacher's Day with such an activity.
