The Island Garden City of Samal, once again, brought the city to the international platform with the increasingly demanding task of liquid and solid waste management as it participated in the City Window's Series II - Smart Green ASEAN Cities (SGAC) Programme on September 12–14, 2023, co-hosted by the UN Development Capital Fund (UNCDF), with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry of Indonesia and the Republic of Banyumas, in cooperation with the Global Fund for Cities Development (FMDV) and the ASEAN Secretariat at Purwokerto, Banyumas, Indonesia.
Mayor Al David T. Uy has sent the City Representatives, Engr. Kim Joshua Garciano and Karen Kaye L. Ruiz, MPA, to this second conference. Together with Philippine city Puerto Princesa, Palawan, are local governments from Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, and Vietnam.
The SGAC tackles the different strategies for similar global issues in sustainable and environmental development with the theme "Transforming Cities: Planning, Structuring, and Financing Projects." Part of the program was the site visit of Banyumas' excellent "zero waste" practice facilities. The UNCDF-SGAC Team, together with FMDV shall conduct the scoping mission in the next few days to see for themselves how Samal addresses these problems. (CIO-IGACOS)
