The City Nutrition Committee of Local Government Unit of IGACOS chaired by City Mayor Al David T. Uy and vice-chaired by City Health Officer Dr. Dennis Flores, spearheaded the culmination of the 49th nutrition month celebration, with the theme: 'Healthy Diet Gawing Affordable for All!'’ today, July 31, 2023 at the City Hall.
Series of competitions including Vegetable and Fruit table display, Zumba dance workout, and NutriJingle were organized by the committee to be enjoyed by the participating Public Health workers (PHW), Barangay Nutrition Scholar (BNS), Volunteer Barangay Sanitary Inspectors (VBSI), midwives and nurses, assigned in various barangay representing their respective districts, Kaputian, Samal and Babak.
In the Vegetable and Fruit table display contest, an array of Go, Glow and Grow products were aesthetically arranged by the representatives of the three district. Acing the categories; physical arrangement, visual impact, and originality, representatives of Kaputian district was hailed as the 1st placer, Samal district secured the 2nd place and Babak District placed 3rd.
Exuberant cheers reverberated across the venue as the contenders of the Zumba Dance Workout contest exploded their energy on the dance floor. Claiming the 1st place is the DOH Human Resource for Health Nurses representing the Babak district, 2nd place goes to Brgy. Guilon and Brgy. Anonang placed 3rd. Meanwhile in the Nutrijingle contest, Brgy. Aundanao was heralded as the 1st placer, Brgy. San Isidro was announced as the 2nd placer and Brgy. Tagbaobo placed 3rd. The winning teams each received a cash prize and the non-winning teams each received a monetary consolation.
Moreover, recognitions were given to the BNS for the monitoring and evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation evaluation last February to March 2023. Also Recognitions were given to the most improved barangay in nutrition program implementation for the three districts and Barangay health stations having the 100% quality prenatal care from January to June. In response to the mandated Presidential decree 491, a decree dedicated to diminishing malnutrition cases and improving health, the City Nutrition Committee relentlessly pursued to promote and establish the promotion of health and wellness.
Also present to celebrate the event and participate in the activity were, City Vice Mayor Lemuel 'Toto' Reyes, City Administrator, Neiljun Esdrelon, City Assistant Administrative IV, Guillermo Olden, Provincial Nutrition Program Coordinator of Davao Del Norte, Mayflor Espiritu, RND, City Social Welfare and Development officer Erizza Baban, Barangay captains and kagawads.
