Niña Tanjay, representing Barangay Catagman, Samal District, raised the LGBTQ+ flag the highest as she slayed the stage with grace, beauty, and wit during the grand coronation night of the Reyna Samalenya 2023 on July 27, 2023.
In her final question, "As a beauty queen, what are the problems that the Filipino people are facing today that you would like to address and discuss with our current leaders? Pick one and why?, she answered, "I do believe that if I have to choose a problem that our society faces or the Philippines faces today, it is about protection for the LGBTQ+ community. As a fellow sister, I do believe that we're not heard, we're not given the opportunity to be better, and also to prove ourselves to the society. And i stand here not just to represent beauty and body but also to represent intelligence and courage every LGBTQ+ individual possesses so that we can offer so much and also the dream to be heard, respected, and also be seen". Niña also bagged the Miss Photogenic, Miss HotCom, and Best in Swimsuit awards.
Moreover, Trisha Serondo of LYDC-Samal was hailed as the 1st runner-up, Leonard Cabugsan from Barangay Miranda secured the 2nd runner-up, Jayden FinnBraxton representing Barangay San Isidro bagged the 3rd runner-up, and Bella Hadid of Barangay Peñaplata declared as the 4th runner-up.
Meanwhile, clusters' representatives for the Drag Queen-Lip Sync competition rocked the stage with their amazing performances. Among the eight competitors, Rhyan Tambilawan of the LYDC cluster, with his lithe and astonishing moves, was proclaimed the grand winner.
Furthermore, City Vice Mayor Lemuel T. Reyes and Babak District City Councilor Jed Enumerables came to witness the event and expressed their full support to the youth and the LGBTQ+ community of Samal Island and hope for the success of the United Youth Festival Camp x Linggo ng Kabataan celebration.
