Brgy. Peñaplata, April 28, 2023 — Two (2) 1-million-worth Lantangan with complete accessories, including a hand-held radio, Global Positioning System (GPS), Automatic Voltage Regulator, and fish finder, were turned over to the Brgy. San Remegio Fisherfolks Association and 4BMWD SLP Association of Talicud Island, and three (3) solar marker buoys with complete accessories were also doled out to Brgy. Tagpopongan by the Provincial Government of Davao del Norte through its Provincial Agriculturist’s Office headed by Mr. Jose L. Andamon.
Under the Food Sufficiency Program—Fishery Enhancement Project, the units are to help the fisherfolk on the island improve and be more efficient in catching various types of fish and other marine life. With his sincere willingness to help, Mr. Andamon asked for the supervision of the recipients to take charge of the maintenance of the units so they would be serviceable for a longer period of time than anticipated.
In his welcome message, OIC-City Agriculturist, Mr. Jimuel Rebigan, extended his gratitude to the provincial government for looking over the needs of the fishermen on the island and for addressing the problem of food sufficiency in parallel with Sustainable Development Goal #4, or Zero Hunger.
Furthermore, City Mayor Al David T. Uy, duly represented by Executive Assistant IV Florencio Thaddeus "Niño" Valera, reminded the recipients to register the new fishing boats and complete their necessary documents to legalize their fishing activity, whether inside or outside the boundaries of the island. "Ang atoa lang diha, sa Island Garden City of Samal ug sa duha ka mga beneficiary, nga atong atimanon pag ayo, atong ampingan, atong gamiton sa maayo, atong gamiton sa panagat para makakuhag isda ug makabaligya sa atoang mga kabarangay ug sa tibuok Samal, " Mr. Valera added.
Being the first recipients of the lantangan, 4BMWD SLP Association President Venus Aragallon and BSRFA President Rel Abellana, on behalf of their members, both wholeheartedly thanked the provincial and city governments for their unceasing support and answering the call of the people of Samal regarding their livelihood concerns.
