Talicud Island hog farmers receive ownership certificate

Talicud Island hog farmers receive ownership certificate

On May 28, 2024, Under the Leadership of City Mayor Al David T. Uy through the City Veterinary Office headed by Dr. Edunel Sala, the Local Government Unit of Island Garden City of Samal awarded the certificate of ownership to the beneficiaries of the Swine Restocking Dispersal Project in Talikud Island.

The said awarding ceremony was conducted in Brgy. Cogon, Talikud Island, Kaputian District. In partnership with Pilmico, 139 recipients from Brgy. Sta Cruz, Brgy. Cogon, Brgy. Linosutan, and Brgy. Dadatan received their certificate of ownerships.

The program emphasizes that locally, IGACOS is now under the green national classification from the ASF virus. However, Talicud Island is still under the pink classification (buffer zone), meaning they are now ASF free but still can't export hogs and pork outside Samal Island. The City Veterinary Office are now working in making Talikud a Commercialized Farm Cluster. One of the guidelines for exporting hogs requires that the farms must be classified as commercialized farms.

"Kining tanan gipasugdan no ug giplano sa atung halangdon na City Mayor Al David T. Uy, with the help of our 9th City Council headed by our Vice Mayor Lemuel "Toto" Reyes along with our City Councilors. Wala gayud sila nagduha duha ug suporta sa atoa diri." Dr. Sala stated.

Also present in the awarding ceremony are Hon. Henry Forones of Barangay Sta. Cruz and Hon. Cesario Accion of Barangay Linosutan. (IGACOS-Info/NjPadillo/ChristianJuntong)
