Renewable Energy Project poised to alleviate energy crisis in IGACOS

Groundbreaking ceremony for the Renewable Energy project of the Local Government Unit of IGACOS spearheaded by the visionary leader, City Mayor Al David T. Uy in partnership with the implementing companies, HG Agri Industrial Machineries, and Greenergy Development Corporation, transpired at the New City hall on April 09, 2024.

The power supply shortage experienced throughout Samal Island surfaced the initiative that is imperative in reducing the frequency and duration of power outages. Also, the project, slated to be completed within 150 calendar days at notice to proceed, aligns with broader objectives of environmental preservation and energy resilience.

Entailed in the 50 million-worth renewable energy project is the establishment of a 500Kilovolt-Ampere (KVA) grid-type solar power energy with 466.2 kilowatts to be installed on the City Hall building and City Hall ground, parking area. Ground-mounted systems, with a clearance of up to 2.6 meters can comfortably accommodate passenger vehicles, spanning approximately 2,500 square meters with a capacity for up to 150 cars. City Engineer Darwin S. Arig, stated that the primary objective of the project is the provision of a sustainable energy solution with the capability of supplying electricity to the entire city hall building. Consequently, this would pave the way to cater to the escalating electricity demand on the island.

Vice president for Operation of HG Agri-industrial Machinery and representative of the Greenergy Corporation, Alaine Joyce Tan, conveyed the significant shift that the initiative will commence “This by the thought project is poised to generate 1,863 kilowatt hours of electricity per day. Translating to an impressive 681, 970 kilowatt hours annually. Not only does it forecast savings of approximately 9 million pesos per year, but it also promises reduction in Island’s energy demands” she said and added the possible significant reduction of the carbon footprint, “We avoid approximately 400 tons of carbon emissions per year. This project stands to avoid approximately 10,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. “

Deep-felt gratitude was expressed by City Mayor Al David T. Uy to the Sangguniang Panlungsod led by City Vice Mayor Lemuel ‘Toto’ Reyes and everyone who helped materialize the project. He further conveyed installations of renewable solar energy panels to other local and national government establishments within IGACOS. Through meticulous planning, execution, and adherence to rigorous standards, the project ends to serve as a sustainable infrastructure development supporting the national policy, the Renewable Energy Act of 2008, the Republic Act 9513.

Present in the ceremony were the Sangguniang Panlungsod 9th City Council led by Vice Mayor Reyes, Department heads, Greenergy and HG representatives, and LGU staff. (CIO-IGACOS/Eli/RConcepcion)
