Independence Day: Celebrating freedom and resilience of the Philippine nation

After enduring 333 years of captivity, Filipinos finally reclaimed the sovereignty of the Philippines and are relishing the freedom won over through the invaluable sacrifices of resilient heroes. With the theme, ‘Kalayaan, Kinabukasan, Kasaysayan”, the Local Government Unit of IGACOS spearheaded by City Mayor Al David T. Uy, with the facilitation of the City Human Resource Management Office led by Leo A. Planas celebrates the glorious 126th Independence Day (Araw ng Kalayaan).

Paying homage to the heroes City vice mayor, Lemuel 'Toto' Reyes conveyed his gratitude for the freedom that leads us to this precious moment to gather and celebrate our liberation from the grasp of tyrant captors. “Salamat no kay nagtigom tigom na pud ta sa gihatag na freedom sa atoang mga heroes. Dili nato kalimtan na tungod nila, nahimo ta karon nga malaya. Kita nga naa sa gobyerno atoa pud hinumduman nga atoang i-treasure ug atoang paningkamutan nga i-build nato ang future sa atoang kabatan’onan.” He said.

Pondering over the meaning and essence of freedom, Mayor Uy, urged everyone to seek the true definition of freedom and reflect to never be deprived again with liberation. The given freedom is a present and a responsibility that all Filipinos must treasure and safeguard.

Also present, celebrating the pride-filled event, were the 9th City Council, department heads, LGU employees, and the national agencies. The Samal Island City College Ensemble and SICC Sinag Samal offered their commemoration and joined the celebration through a heartwarming performance. (IGACOS-Info/ELI//Photo: ErickBarsarsa)
