Dive Seafari Awardees exhibits rich marine biodiversity of IGACOS

Endowed with lush natural resources, and rich biodiversity, the Local Government Unit of the Island Garden City of Samal spearheaded by City Mayor Al David T. Uy endeavors to conserve, promote, and progress the nature tourism of the Island. Through the City Investment Office led by Rosabel Jusguan, in collaboration with the Department of Tourism XI led by Director Tanya Rabat-Tan, an awarding ceremony for the winners of the recently concluded Dive Seafari: Underwater photography and videography, and the opening of the Seafari exhibit was held during the Monday convocation today, June 10, 2024, at the New City hall lobby. 

Various diving spots were explored and wandered by the participants from the teams; Glide Free Diving, Coastal Dive, Santosidad, South Shore, Scubaqua. Picturesque wonders and diverse life below the sea were captured to be submitted as contending entries for the competition. After deliberation and scrutinizing the entries based on the set of criteria, winners were declared. 

Respective cash prizes, and a trophy, were handed by Director Tanya Rabat-Tan, City Councilor Hon. Marife Bantillo, City Administrator Neiljun Esdrelon, City Investment, and Tourism Officer Rosabel Jusguan, and ABC President Ruel Bantillo to the awardees.

3rd Place- Php 10,000 Earl Purisima
2nd Place- Php 20,000 Rex Liao
1st Place- Php 30,000 Atty. Fatima Adin
 
Wide-angle Photography category
3rd Place- Php 10,000 Ismael Lejarso, Jr.
2nd Place- Php 20,000 Norman Macababayao
1st Place- Php 30,000 Norman Macababayao
 
Freediving Underwater Photo category:
3rd Place- Php 5000 Genelito Marte
2nd Place- Php 10,000 Mark Joey Florentino
1st Place- Php 15,000 James Malihan
 
Freediving Underwater Video category:
3rd Place- Php 5,000 James Malihan
2nd Place- Php 10,000 Josephine Marie Cadayona
1st Place- Php 15,000 James Malihan
 
Meanwhile, People’s Choice Awards, with a cash prize worth 3,000 pesos, were given to Mr. Earl Purisma for his entry in Scuba Diving Compact Class: Macro/Super Macro Category that garnered a total of 1,500 reactions and his entry in the Wide-Angle category that garnered a total of 1, 300 reactions. The award was also given to Mr. James Malihan for his entries in Freediving underwater photo which garnered 1,200 reactions, and video entry having garnered 856 reactions. The recipients of this award were determined through the massive public votes garnered by the entries posted at the Visit Samal Islands Facebook page, by the time that the competition ended.
