SAMAL ISLAND - A total of 46 government officials were gathered on August 10 to 11, 2017 at the Regency Inn, Davao City for the first Executive and Barangay Consultative Meeting and Feedbacking organized by the Island Garden City of Samal.

The two-day event, which was participated by barangay captains, local government unit department managers, and heads of national agencies, aims to facilitate and guarantee participatory governance from the 46 barangays. It also seeks to align and prioritize projects and programs with the needs of the community.

“This is a very rare opportunity that we -- the barangay captains, department heads, and other concerned national offices -- are gathered in one venue to discuss concerns and problems in our day to day service to the people," said City Legal Officer lawyer Rosemarie Garde.

The city have been approved of a loan amounting to P150 Million for heavy equipment which is necessary for road improvement or repair.

Mayor Al David Uy also assured the barangay captains of the electrification and water projects during his administration.

“Every year there is an allocated budget for streetlights and the city will pay for the electric bill," Mayor Uy added.

A loan amount of P50 million will be used for additional water projects in the island to address problems with water system facilities in different barangays.

CCTVs will be installed in different strategic areas of the island to monitor people coming in and out of Samal.

To enhance one of Samal’s best practices, a recycling plant for plastic and a waste water treatment facility will be added to the existing sanitary landfill. A dislodger truck will also be procured to suck the waste from the septic tank going to the landfill.
