Island Garden City of Samal - President Rodrigo Roa Duterte led the turnover ceremony of the Samal Rehabilitation Facility for Drug ref at Sitio Maag, Brgy. Peñaplata, Island Garden City of Samal on February 24.
Outpatient drug dependents will be provided counselling and right intervention through the P500,000 worth of community-based drug rehabilitation facility.
The facility was donated by the Federation of Filipino – Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII), represented by its President Angel Ngu, and Mr. & Mrs. Eduardo Bangayan. The rehab center, which was built on November 22, 2016, is the first among 15 buildings committed by the federation.
“Last October, we received a request from Mayor Al David Uy for a rehabilitation [facility] to assist [around 1,000] city drug surrenderees. We entrust this [facility for] the city government to manage in support of its moral recovery program,” said FFCCCII President Angel Ngu.
“I have opted to give this facility [to] Samal because I consider this city as my family’s second home. May the Samaleños and Davaoeños make good use of this rehab [facility] to heal those in need of healing,” FFCCCII Regional Director for Southern Mindanao Eduardo Bangayan said.
“I would like to thank the Chamber headed by its president, Angel Ngu, and of course, Mr. and Mrs. Bangayan for this facility. Hopefully, this is just the first of the many more to come in the future,” Samal City Mayor Al David Torres Uy said.
Since Pres. Duterte’s administration in 2016, a total of 1,186 Samaleños involved in drugs had surrendered and vowed to change for the better by actively participating in the Moral Recovery Programs (MRP) and other interventions prepared by the government.
“Let us be thankful that there are still people who look our way in the light of what we have done and for helping us try to rehabilitate our country,” President Duterte stressed. Jezza Samal Info
