Mayor's Message

Dear Visitor and Future Development Partner,

Madayaw – our warmest greetings of welcoming you to the Island Garden City of Samal!

We invite you to our enchanting paradise – an island, a garden, and a city. Located at the heart of Davao Gulf of southern Philippines, the Island Garden City of Samal teems with rich flora and fauna bedecked in captivating waterfalls, challenging ridges, fascinating cave systems, and picturesque underwater gardens.

When you set foot on our “urban center in a rural setting”, things to do on our Island City seem simply endless. One could opt for some fun rappelling on the walls of natural sinkholes and cliffs made of limesone rocks. One may go for communing with playful aquarium fishes, pawikans, dugongs, and butandings in its numerous marine protected areas, or being awed by the circadian flight towards dusk of winged creatures at the bat cave sanctuary… Or one could simply just wish to bask and bare in the white sand beaches fronting an array of rustic and AAA resorts.

Yet, Samal is just about 15-minutes across the channel from metropolitan Davao, a major economic hub which hosts an international airport, an international seaport, several high-end hotels, world-class golf courses, shopping malls, fine dining joints, brisk gaming centers and exciting entertainment spots that refuse to sleep.

With all these ingredients combined, Samal has unsurprisingly emerged as “regional hub for recreation and amity in Southern Philippines”, a haven for wellness tourism, outdoor adventure, aquasports, cultural and eco-tourism – a rare destination which almost has it all.

No wonder that the Island has become a favourite gateaway of all types of tourists – a hidden nook for discriminating jetsetters, a refuge for nature trippers, a preferred lair for family excursionists, and as playground for outdoor adventurists wanting to burn their adrenalins.

Recently, huge and high-end but eco-friendly property developments have mushroomed on the island. And properties are selling like hotcakes both in the domestic market and abroad.

The Samal Island Tourism Estate Project (SITEP) which hibernated during the Asian financial crunch is now being revived. Anytime soon, the establishment of a Samal Island Special Economic Zone and Free Port would be enacted by Congress which would further usher in more investments and economic opportunities for the Island. All these are complemented by the City’s Investment Priorities Plan and the City’s Investment Incentives Code, both adding to the Island’s premium as emerging investors’ haven.

On top of that, you would easily feel at home in the Island Garden City of Samal as peace-loving Samalenos overwhelm you with their warmth, hospitality and contagious smiles. Equipped with the appropriate skills, craftsmanship, professionalism, dedication, and hard work, a true Samaleno is a partner you could count on.

I shall look forward to your visits both as tourists and as eventual partners, investors, and co-stakeholders in our beloved “Isla nga Maanyag”, the Island Garden City of Samal.

Yours very truly,

City Mayor
